Magna Systems Finishes UHD, IP-Based OB Truck for Singapore Network

Magna Systems has completed the design and construction of what is believed to be Southeast Asia’s first fully UHD and IP-based outside broadcast (OB) truck for a major Singapore media network. While the client’s name remains confidential, Magna describes them as Singapore’s largest content creator.

The new OB truck was commissioned as the client’s previous vehicle approached the end of its service life. The organization sought a state-of-the-art solution that would advance their production capabilities by adopting IP workflows and supporting ultra-high-definition (UHD) content. This move positions the company at the forefront of broadcast technology in the region.

Key requirements for the new OB truck included:

  • Full internal UHD processing
  • UHD and HD copper and fiber interconnections to minimize cabling and speed up deployment
  • Support for remote workflows
  • Compatibility with other OB companies and campus systems
  • Seamless integration with on-site theater operations
  • User-friendly operation and future-proofing for larger events

To meet these needs, Magna integrated 20 UHD cameras (16 wired and four wireless), full internal UHD processing, hybrid HD compatibility, UHD replay, and UHD super slow-motion capabilities. The truck also serves as a test bed for IP workflows, deepening the organization’s expertise in SMPTE ST 2110 design and implementation.

Magna Systems’ team managed the entire project, from technical design and importation to registration, installation, and configuration. They worked closely with the coachbuilder and client, overseeing all electrical systems, interior finishes, and coordination with suppliers and vendors. Magna also provided training, conducted site tests, supported OB events, and managed the project throughout the build process.

The new OB truck is primarily used as an external production hub at the National Stadium and other major venues. It played a central role in Singapore’s National Day production earlier this year and will be deployed for international sporting events such as the Toyota World Para Swimming Championships, as well as serving as a control room for the company’s theater operations.
