From humble beginnings, protagonist takes on London’s shipping elite beating them at their own game despite personal tragedy, sabotage, and funding challenges. The loss of three ships on the lucrative London to Australia migrant route were set backs. The last ship lost, the state-of-the-art WARATAH which vanished with all hands (211 souls ) in 1909 took the wind out of his sails! The crew were all well known to LUND and handpicked from the lines other ships. The eleven ship empire, with the most modern ships in operation at that time, was reduced to five and the disposed of to a well-known shipping competitor. LUND rubbed shoulders with the Ismay Bros and JP Morgan, founders and financial backers of White Star Line at banquets. LUND’S vision saw the inroduction on his ships of RITZ style comfort on the migrant routes – a first. His flagship WARATAH, was lost in 1909 – three years before the TITANIC disaster.
