During a fan interaction on Rediff, Aamir Khan was questioned about the widely discussed rift with Ram Gopal Varma. A fan inquired, “What went wrong between you and Ram Gopal Varma? He is a terrific director, and you would only benefit from your friendship!”

In his response, Khan stated, “Ram Gopal Varma and I never shared a friendship, and I’m sure I’ll miss him as a director.”

The Controversy That Sparked the Rift

The fallout reportedly began during the filming of Rangeela when Varma commented on a scene featuring a waiter. He suggested that the actor portraying the waiter delivered a better performance than Aamir Khan in that moment. This remark, intended as a technical critique, was misinterpreted and seen as a jab at Khan’s acting.

Due to limited communication options at the time, Khan was unable to clarify the context directly with Varma. Feeling hurt and betrayed by what he perceived as an intentional slight, Khan chose to distance himself from the director. This incident marked the end of what could have been a fruitful professional partnership.

Later, Ram Gopal Varma addressed the situation, clarifying that his comment had been misinterpreted and expressing regret over the misunderstanding. He acknowledged that it led to Khan feeling wronged and accepted responsibility for the fallout. However, despite his attempts at reconciliation, the damage was done, and the two never worked together again.

Aamir’s Upcoming Project: Sitaare Zameen Par

On the professional front, Aamir Khan is preparing for the release of Sitaare Zameen Par, which is being hailed as a spiritual successor to his 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. While the original film tackled the challenges faced by a dyslexic child, Sitaare Zameen Par takes a more uplifting approach, focusing on children with special needs and delivering its message with humor and heart.
