Pixitmedia by Datacore has released a new global survey showing a significant change in how the Media & Entertainment (M&E) industry manages its media archives. According to the “State of Media Archiving” survey, 85% of respondents plan to move to a horizontally integrated approach for managing assets and media, moving away from fragmented, multi-generation systems.
The survey highlights that integration costs, data silos, and inefficient collaboration are the main reasons companies are seeking more unified solutions. Barry Evans, senior vice president of product development at Pixitmedia, explained that traditional, isolated archiving systems are no longer sufficient. As content libraries grow across both traditional and digital platforms, a unified approach helps companies streamline operations, improve collaboration across regions, and support long-term growth.
The survey included 330 M&E professionals. Key findings include:
- 45% of respondents identified automation, metadata enrichment, and third-party integration as major workflow challenges.
- 76% of organizations plan to increase technology budgets in the next year to modernize their archiving systems.
- As of 2025, only 6% of M&E companies have fully switched to a single-platform archiving system.
- Digital service providers (10%) and houses of worship (7%) are leading early adoption, while TV and video broadcasters are slower to change, with just 3% fully migrated and 10% reporting no plans to migrate.
- 75% of houses of worship are currently evaluating the return on investment and business benefits, and all surveyed sports franchises plan to migrate within the next two years.
Hybrid deployments remain popular, with 42% of respondents currently using them and 40% expecting to continue with hybrid setups in 2026. Adoption rates differ by sector, with 69% of houses of worship and 58% of enterprise video teams leading the way. Currently, 25% of respondents prefer on-premises deployment, a number expected to rise to 31% among those planning to host archiving workflows in-house over the next year.
AI-driven media archiving is becoming a top priority. 39% of studios and 46% of enterprises are integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) to improve content operations. 45% of respondents see increased operational productivity as the main benefit of AI/ML, with features like metadata enrichment, automated search, and deduplication in high demand.
