This compelling film is co-directed by Palestinian journalist Basel Adra and Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham.
The Palestinian documentary No Other Land has received a prestigious nomination for Best Documentary at this year’s Academy Awards.
Created by a collaborative team of four Israeli and Palestinian filmmakers, this film has already garnered numerous accolades, including the top award at the Cinema Eye Honors, Best Documentary and Best Director at the IDA Awards, Best European Documentary at the European Film Awards, and Best Documentary at the Berlin Film Festival, where it premiered in February.
No Other Land offers an intimate glimpse into life in Masafer Yatta, a rural region of the West Bank where Palestinian villagers face the persistent threat of displacement by the Israeli Defense Forces, who claim the land for military exercises.
The documentary chronicles the journey of Adra, a young Palestinian activist from Masafer Yatta, as he advocates against the mass displacement of his community. Since childhood, Adra has documented the demolition of homes and the forced eviction of residents under military occupation. His narrative intertwines with that of Abraham, an Israeli journalist who supports his cause. Despite their collaboration, the stark contrast between their realities—Adra’s under occupation and Abraham’s in freedom—creates tension in their partnership.
As the only film by an Arab filmmaker nominated for this year’s Oscars, No Other Land casts a global spotlight on the challenges faced by the Palestinian people.
