Netflix Teases New Limited Series ‘Zero Day’ Starring Robert De Niro

Netflix has unveiled a teaser for its upcoming limited series Zero Day, featuring Robert De Niro in his inaugural regular series role.

This thriller showcases De Niro as George Mullen, a former president who is appointed by the current president, played by Angela Bassett, to lead a commission investigating a catastrophic cyber attack. The president informs Mullen that Congress will grant the commission powers for “surveillance [and] search and seizure.”

Mullen questions, “So they’re just gonna grab people off the streets without warrants?” to which the president responds, “Actually, you are.” Later, she remarks, “People believe what they need to believe. The truth is the truth, but it’s not always the most important thing,” hinting at the series’ conspiracy-thriller themes.

You can watch the teaser below.

Netflix greenlit Zero Day in March 2023, with De Niro attached as both star and executive producer. The series was created by Eric Newman (known for Narcos), Noah Oppenheim (former president of NBC News), and Michael S. Schmidt from the New York Times. All three serve as executive producers, with Newman and Oppenheim as co-showrunners for the six-episode drama.

The cast also features Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, and Matthew Modine, with guest appearances from Bill Camp, Dan Stevens, Gaby Hoffmann, Clark Gregg, and McKinley Belcher III.

The logline for Zero Day states: “Respected former U.S. President George Mullen, as head of the Zero Day Commission, is tasked with identifying those responsible for a devastating cyber attack that has led to chaos nationwide and thousands of deaths. As disinformation spreads and the ambitions of power players in technology, Wall Street, and government clash, Mullen’s relentless pursuit of the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while jeopardizing everything he holds dear.”

Director Lesli Linka Glatter and Jonathan Glickman also serve as executive producers alongside Newman, Oppenheim, Schmidt, and De Niro. Zero Day is set to premiere on February 20.
