MFE–MediaForEurope has purchased a 32.9% share in Impresa, Portugal’s leading multimedia group. Impresa operates the SIC TV networks and publishes several digital and print newspapers, including the weekly Expresso.

This acquisition, which is not a full takeover, increases MFE’s reach to six European markets: Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and now Portugal. The group, led by Pier Silvio Berlusconi, describes this as a long-term industrial investment and plans to collaborate closely with the Balsemão family, who remain significant shareholders in Impresa.

Immediate plans include working together on advertising revenue and developing digital platforms. Berlusconi highlighted that entering the Portuguese market is a strategic move, strengthening MFE’s position across the Iberian Peninsula, which is often viewed as a single market by advertisers. He also noted the value of Impresa’s family ownership and editorial experience.

Francisco Pedro Balsemão, CEO of Impresa, welcomed the agreement, emphasizing shared goals of quality content, local production, and technological innovation. He stated that Impresa’s strong presence in Portugal will add significant value to the partnership.

This expansion follows MFE’s recent acquisition of a majority stake in ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE, a major European radio and television group based in Bavaria, with operations in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. After a voluntary takeover bid launched in May 2025 and increased in July, MFE now holds 75.61% of ProSiebenSat.1’s capital.
