LaKeith Stanfield will take on the role of Dennis Rodman in the upcoming film 48 Hours in Vegas, stepping in after Jonathan Majors was removed from the project nearly two years ago.

The film, directed by Rick Famuyiwa, focuses on Rodman’s well-known trip to Las Vegas during the 1998 NBA Finals while he played for the Chicago Bulls. Majors was originally cast in 2022 but was later dropped following his conviction for assault and harassment related to an incident with his ex-partner, Grace Jabbari. He was sentenced to a 52-week in-person domestic violence intervention program. Following these events, Majors was also released from roles with Disney and Marvel Studios, where he had portrayed Kang the Conqueror.

Erin Westerman, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, described Rodman as “more than a basketball player, more than a personality — he’s an entire cultural phenomenon.” Westerman expressed confidence that Stanfield and the film’s creative team will capture Rodman’s unique story.

Stanfield is known for his performances in the Emmy-winning series Atlanta, as well as films such as Get Out, Haunted Mansion, The Book of Clarence, and Judas and the Black Messiah, for which he received an Oscar nomination.

48 Hours in Vegas is produced by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Aditya Sood of Lord Miller. Famuyiwa will direct and write the next draft of the screenplay, originally written by Jordan VanDina. Ari Lubet, Dennis Rodman, and Lucy Kitada will serve as executive producers, with Nikki Baida as co-producer.
