While photogrammetry is a well-established technique, its effectiveness can vary based on the object’s surface texture. Here’s a quick look at the limitations of the previous Photo Scan Mode:

- Smooth or low-texture items often result in incomplete or unstable reconstructions due to insufficient feature points.
With the new updates in KIRI Engine 4.0, users can expect:
- Lower Texture Requirements: Even low-texture objects can now be captured more reliably, minimizing common failures from earlier versions.
- More Stable Results: The enhanced Photo Scan Mode offers improved surface quality, leading to cleaner and more accurate 3D reconstructions.
- 5x Faster Processing: Processing time has dramatically decreased from nearly 10 minutes to around 2 minutes, boosting overall efficiency.
- Expanded Photo Upload Limits: Users can now upload more images for better reconstruction quality:
- KIRI Engine Basic: Increased from 100 to 150 photos
- KIRI Engine Pro: Increased from 300 to 500 photos
- New AR Mode: This feature displays each captured photo as a 3D camera icon, helping users track coverage and ensure all angles are captured.
- Unlimited Scans and Exports for Free Users: Previously limited to three exports per week, free users can now enjoy unlimited exports, enhancing the tool’s sustainability for long-term use.
Additionally, KIRI Engine 4.0 introduces an innovative AI-powered PBR Material Capturing feature. For the first time in 3D scanning, the engine can generate professional-grade PBR materials using a diffusion model, similar to the technology behind modern AI image generation. This breakthrough allows for capturing more realistic and physically accurate textures directly from scans.
Another exciting update is the Full-res In-app Rendering Texture toggle. Previously, users only saw low-poly previews on mobile devices. Now, with a new compression algorithm, full-resolution 3D models can be rendered directly on mobile, and users can toggle textures on or off for better mesh inspection.
