Legendary Entertainment and Hasbro Entertainment are joining forces to develop a live-action feature film and a comprehensive television universe inspired by Hasbro’s acclaimed Magic: The Gathering trading card game franchise. The initial strategy focuses on launching a feature film, with plans for a series of television shows and additional content as the universe unfolds.

“We take great pride in being responsible stewards of unique and cherished intellectual properties, and Magic: The Gathering epitomizes that,” stated Mary Parent, Chairman of Worldwide Production at Legendary. “Together with the talented team at Hasbro, we are eager to craft a multimedia universe that excites long-time fans while attracting a new audience.”

“This partnership is both thrilling and synergistic, merging one of the world’s most iconic brands with a strong and experienced partner,” remarked Zev Foreman, Head of Film at Hasbro Entertainment. “Magic: The Gathering has fueled decades of imaginative world-building and storytelling. It aligns perfectly with Legendary’s diverse approach to premier intellectual properties, and we are enthusiastic about collaborating to create an entirely new Magic: The Gathering universe.”

The development of Magic is a key component of Hasbro Entertainment’s ongoing strategy to enhance storytelling and produce films centered around their most iconic brands. In addition to Magic, Hasbro Entertainment has recently forged partnerships with Sony’s TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television to reimagine Clue for both film and television; collaborated with Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap and Lionsgate to create a film based on Monopoly; and teamed up with The CW to launch game shows inspired by Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble, which debuted this past fall.

Additionally, a Magic: The Gathering animated series from showrunner Terry Matalas is currently in production at Netflix.
