Technology provider Foundry (UK) has released Mari 7.5, a significant update to its 3D texture painting software developed in close collaboration with Wētā FX. The release introduces the ‘Multi-Paint’ system, allowing artists to paint into eight texture channels simultaneously, a workflow shift designed to handle high-resolution assets for major 2026 film projects. The update also includes a new ‘Texture Transfer’ system within the Bakery engine to streamline baking across different UV layouts.

Wētā FX CTO Kimball Thurston noted that the toolset was born from a shared vision to manage the complexity of high-end VFX production. The software now bundles 54 new skin textures and animal maps from Texturing XYZ, alongside custom brushes from look-dev artist Bradford deCaussin. These enhancements aim to reduce repetitive tasks, enabling creators to focus on the intricate detailing required for modern cinematic storytelling.

Available as of December 3, 2025, Mari 7.5 maintains compatibility with industry standards like USD, FBX, and OpenEXR. The release is currently accessible for all active subscribers, with Foundry offering specialized licensing for solo artists. By integrating these artist-first features, Foundry reinforces its position as a primary supplier of high-fidelity texturing tools for the global entertainment supply chain. (UK)
