Adobe has unveiled major updates to its ‘Firefly’ generative AI suite, introducing “prompt-to-edit” controls that allow creators to direct rather than just generate video content. This update enables editors to surgically remove objects, change backgrounds, or adjust lighting in existing clips via text prompts, significantly reducing the need for full re-generations. This toolset is designed to integrate seamlessly into professional post-production pipelines, including ‘Adobe Premiere Pro’ and ‘After Effects’.
Further expanding its media supply chain partnerships, Adobe has entered a multi-year strategic agreement with Runway to offer early access to the ‘Gen-4.5’ model within ‘Firefly’. The update also features video upscaling via ‘Topaz Astra’, allowing users to enhance low-resolution footage to 4K quality. These advancements target studio houses and independent filmmakers seeking precise motion control and commercial safety in AI-generated assets, ensuring the output is ready for professional distribution.
The full beta of the ‘Firefly’ browser-based video editor was launched in mid-December 2025, offering unlimited generations for Pro and Premium subscribers through January 2026. Adobe CTO Ely Greenfield highlighted that these tools empower storytellers to maintain visual fidelity and temporal consistency across complex scenes. The new features provide a more predictable and controllable environment for creators, establishing a new standard for AI-assisted storytelling in the entertainment industry. (USA)
