‘Sinners’ and ‘Wicked: For Good’ have emerged as the top contenders at the 2026 Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) Awards, each securing three nominations. This follows their strong performance on the Oscars shortlists earlier in the week.

Ludwig Göransson, composer for ‘Sinners,’ is nominated for Outstanding Original Score for a Studio Film. He also received two nominations in the Outstanding Original Song for a Dramatic or Documentary Visual Media Production category for the tracks “I Lied to You” and “Last Time (I Seen the Sun).”

Stephen Schwartz earned three nominations for ‘Wicked: For Good,’ including Outstanding Original Score (with John Powell) and two nods for Outstanding Original Song for a Comedy or Musical Visual Media Production for “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble.”

The Outstanding Original Score for a Studio Film category features seven nominees, all of whom were also recognized on the Oscars shortlist for Music (Original Score). The nominees are:

  • Ludwig Göransson – ‘Sinners’
  • Alexandre Desplat – ‘Frankenstein’
  • Jonny Greenwood – ‘One Battle After Another’
  • Stephen Schwartz & John Powell – ‘Wicked: For Good’
  • Max Richter – ‘Hamnet’
  • Jerskin Fendrix – ‘Bugonia’

In the Outstanding Original Score for an Independent Film category, Bryce Dessner (‘Train Dreams’) is the only nominee also shortlisted for the Oscars.

The Outstanding Original Song for a Dramatic or Documentary Visual Media Production category includes a mix of film and television nominees, such as Nikhil Koparkar and Rammy Park for Prime Video’s ‘The Wheel of Time.’ All film nominees in this category were also recognized on the Oscars shortlist for Music (Original Song). Diane Warren continues her streak with another nomination for “Dear Me” from ‘Relentless,’ maintaining her record of being nominated every year since the SCL Awards began.

Ludwig Göransson and writer-director Ryan Coogler will be honored with the Spirit of Collaboration Award, celebrating their partnership across all five of Coogler’s feature films: ‘Fruitvale Station’ (2013), ‘Creed’ (2015), ‘Black Panther’ (2018), ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ (2022), and ‘Sinners.’ Göransson previously won the Oscar for Best Original Score for ‘Black Panther’ and was nominated again for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’ Past recipients of this award include notable duos such as Harry Gregson-Williams & Ridley Scott, Robbie Robertson & Martin Scorsese, Thomas Newman & Sam Mendes, Terence Blanchard & Spike Lee, Carter Burwell & the Coen Brothers, and Justin Hurwitz & Damien Chazelle.

In television, Apple TV’s ‘Pluribus’ and HBO’s ‘The White Lotus’ each received two nominations: Outstanding Original Title Sequence for a Television Production and Outstanding Original Score for a Television Production.

The 7th Annual SCL Awards will take place on February 6 in Los Angeles, celebrating “excellence and innovation in music for visual media.” The event will be hosted by The Bacon Brothers (Kevin Bacon and Michael Bacon), with a special performance by Melissa Manchester.
