In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) continues to be a major focus in the satellite and aviation industries in 2025. Panasonic Avionics has announced that its Astrova in-flight entertainment (IFE) system has been selected by over 30 airlines and is now active across more than 100 airline programs. Including its earlier IFE systems, Panasonic technology is now used by more than 200 airlines worldwide.
Astrova, first introduced at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in 2022, has become Panasonic Avionics’ fastest-adopted IFE solution to date. Airlines that have chosen Astrova include:
- Air Canada
- Air India
- Egypt Air
- Emirates
- Ethiopian Airlines
- EVA Air
- flydubai
- IcelandAir
- Japan Airlines
- Qantas
- Qatar Airways
- Riyadh Air
- Saudi Airlines
- Turkish Airlines
- United Airlines
Astrova has also received recognition beyond the aviation sector, winning both a 2023 Red Dot Award and a 2023 iF Design Award.
Andy Masson, SVP of Products and Strategy at Panasonic Avionics, shared that the development of Astrova aimed to redefine the in-flight entertainment experience. The goal was to create a system that goes beyond traditional entertainment, offering personalized experiences that foster passenger engagement and loyalty. Masson emphasized that Astrova enables airlines to enhance their brand, build stronger passenger relationships, and transform the cabin into a digital experience platform tailored to individual preferences.
The Astrova system features 4K OLED HDR10+ displays, delivering cinema-quality visuals and premium audio through advanced Bluetooth technology. Each seat is equipped with up to 100W USB-C power for fast charging of personal devices, and programmable LED lighting to enhance comfort and ambiance throughout the flight.
Masson also highlighted that, when combined with high-speed, low-latency connectivity and Panasonic’s digital services, Astrova allows airlines to offer dynamic, data-driven experiences. The system supports unique branding, onboard marketplaces, gaming, and more, helping airlines differentiate themselves in a competitive market.
Meanwhile, SES reported significant growth in 2025, with more airlines choosing its connectivity solutions. SES now connects 3,000 aircraft worldwide, serving 1 million passengers online each week. The company has partnered with 30 airlines, delivered over 500 inflight connectivity kits, and completed more than 400 new aircraft installations. Its most recent client is Colombia’s Avianca.
