Kevin Vaz, CEO of JioStar Entertainment, spoke to industry leaders at the Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) 2025 in Singapore, presenting his outlook for the future of entertainment in India and beyond.
During his session, titled “Powering the Next Wave of a Billion Imaginations,” Vaz highlighted JioStar’s expanding influence and described how India is entering a new era where entertainment, technology, and audience engagement are coming together to shape global storytelling.
Vaz emphasized that India now offers one of the world’s most dynamic content ecosystems, thanks to its unmatched linguistic and cultural diversity. The country supports 22 official languages, over 1,500 dialects, and an industry that produces more than 200,000 hours of television programming, 1,800 films, and over 400 web series each year. This output has positioned India as a major content hub for both domestic and international audiences.
He pointed out that the rapid growth in content consumption is fueled by both television and digital platforms. India currently has:
- 900 million television viewers
- 900 million internet users
- 500 million social media users
- Over 85 million connected TV households
This scale is driving a convergence of storytelling, technology, and digital experiences across the country.
Vaz also detailed JioStar’s significant role in this transformation. On television, the company holds a 35% market share with more than 90 channels in 10 languages, reaching over 760 million viewers each month. JioStar leads in most local markets and frequently has five of the top ten shows across various genres.
On the digital side, JioHotstar has surpassed one billion downloads on Google Play and engages over 400 million monthly active users. With its mix of entertainment and sports, JioStar now reaches 99% of India’s connected TV market.
Vaz identified sports as a key growth area for the company, noting JioStar’s broad portfolio of tournaments in India.
Looking ahead, Vaz outlined strategic priorities for JioStar, including:
- AI-driven content innovation
- Expansion in connected TV
- New storytelling formats such as micro-dramas
- Global content distribution
He concluded by reaffirming JioStar’s vision for the coming decade: to create a global imagination ecosystem where technology, data, culture, and creativity work together to transform how stories are told, experienced, and shared.
