Global animation companies have announced a new animated spin-off of the Baahubali series, set to release in 2027. The first teaser trailer offers a glimpse of the epic story following the prince Amarendra Baahubali in the afterlife.

Global animation companies Aniventure, Zaratan, and Alcyde have announced a partnership with India’s Arka Productions to produce Baahubali: The Eternal War – Part 1. This upcoming 3D animated film is a spin-off of the popular Baahubali live-action series, which is the highest-grossing Indian film franchise of all time. The film is scheduled for release in 2027.

The first teaser trailer has been unveiled, giving a glimpse of the epic story. Set after the dramatic ending of Baahubali: The Beginning, the story follows the betrayed and murdered prince Amarendra Baahubali as he journeys through the afterlife. He explores 14 different realms of existence, forms unexpected alliances, faces divine forces beyond human understanding, and fights to restore cosmic balance.

The original live-action films were directed and written by SS Rajamouli, who also serves as a producer for The Eternal War. The animated project is directed by Ishan Shukla, known for Star Wars: Visions, with a script by Scott Mosier, who previously worked on Clerks and Dogma. Mosier also co-directed the 2018 animated film The Grinch.

The deal was led by Adam Nagle from Aniventure, in collaboration with Andrew Pearce and Paula Bird from Zaratan. They assembled a pre-production team that included Alcyde Studio to develop the visual style and oversee storyboards, 3D previsualization, and character designs, ensuring a cohesive and engaging visual narrative.

Director Ishan Shukla expressed enthusiasm about expanding the Baahubali universe into animation, stating, “When I brought the idea to the team, it felt like a natural extension of the world we created. It will excite long-time fans and attract new audiences. I look forward to bringing these stories to the big screen.”

Antoine Charreyron, who is leading the animation efforts at Alcyde Studio, shared his thoughts: “Working on such an iconic story with Ishan Shukla was both exciting and a great responsibility. Our team aimed to honor the grandeur of Baahubali while adding our own visual touch, combining epic scale with high-quality visuals that appeal to all viewers.”
