Paramount’s filmed entertainment segment revenue surged by 28% to $756 million in the third quarter, driven by hits like ‘The Naked Gun’ reboot. Despite the revenue growth, the segment’s operating income declined, prompting plans for increased content spending and a recalibration of the film slate for the upcoming year.

Paramount Skydance announced a 28% growth in filmed entertainment segment revenue, reaching $756 million in the third quarter ending on Sept. 30. This marks a significant rise from the $590 million revenue reported in the same period last year.

The standout theatrical title for the studio during this quarter was the relaunch of ‘The Naked Gun,’ featuring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, which brought in $102 million globally, with $52.6 million coming from North American screens. The increase in pro forma revenue for the filmed entertainment segment was mainly attributed to the inclusion of Skydance licensing and other revenue streams from the previous year.

Despite the revenue growth, the segment’s operating income saw a decline of $36 million (-13% margin) before the close and $13 million (-3% margin) after the close. In the previous quarter ending on June 30, the filmed entertainment segment experienced a loss of $84 million, while showing an operating income of $20 million in the fiscal period ending on March 31.

Looking ahead, Paramount plans to boost its content spending by $1.5 billion in 2026 and aims to release 15 theatrical films next year. CEO David Ellison acknowledged that the performance fell short of expectations, mainly due to the film slate’s performance in the quarter. The studio anticipates a decrease in theatrical revenue compared to the previous year, as they adjust their film lineup and compare against the success of ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ in 2025, which grossed nearly $600 million globally.

The Tom Cruise-led film was also the top-selling Paramount home entertainment release for the quarter.
